Nike Uses The Air Force 1 As Its Canvas To Help Tell The Story Of Jackie Robinson
Nike has been at the forefront of sneaker culture for decades and has continually made a clear point to highlight and celebrate current and past athletes whose accomplishments transcended their respective sports.
For this particular release, they’ve used the Air Force 1 to tell the story of Jackie Robinson, the legendary baseball player that broke the game’s “color barrier”and whose impact extends well beyond the baseball field.
Design, Materials, And Colorway
The shoe’s overall color-palette is a clear nod to Robinson’s playing days with the Brooklyn Dodgers. The shoes uppers looks to be comprised of white leather throughout, with a hit of light grey suede making its way across the toe box.
Around the back portion of the upper, you’ll find a red “42” embroidered near the heel, representing Robinson’s jersey number. Also on the rear, you’ll find red baseball stitches further adding to the shoe’s baseball theme.
To complete the upper, royal blue swoosh were used to match the royal blue tongue that features an embroidered Brooklyn Dodgers logo.
To round out the design, this special release features white laces that read “change the world”, and a speckled gum midsole and outsole that’s made to resemble the dirt found on a baseball diamond.
RELEASE DATE AND PRICING
The Jackie Robinson x Nike Air Force 1 will release on April 15, 2023 in limited quantities at select retailers for a retail price of $120.
