Initial Impressions:

Here are a few of my initial thoughts after unboxing this New Balance 997 Sport “Grey/Blue”. A full written review of this shoe will be posted after I’ve had more time to analyze the shoe.

• Once again, the design team over at New Balance has done a superb job of creating a colorway that simply works perfectly with this silhouette. The Grey and Blue color combination is classic and simple, but give this shoe a striking look due to the texture of the materials.

• This shoe features subtle 3M hits on the New Balance “N” logo and on the back heel of the shoe. I’m not sure if the laces have 3M speckles or not.

• This shoe is a bit on the narrow side and this is evident in the shape of the insole. It’s extremely small in the mid-foot area. I could feel a bit pressure on the side of my foot as soon as I tried the shoe on. Honestly, I don’t think going up a size would help, it’s just the way the shoes are designed. If you’re a wide footer, I’d suggest trying them on in-store prior to purchasing.

• The midsole not only looks good, but it feels good too. The ENCAP reveal and ABZORB combination is something I’ve never worn, however, I’ve worn each technology separately and have always been pleased.

• The outsole traction pattern is a bit aggressive which proves that this shoe is made for the outdoors. One thing I also noticed is that the shoe seems to elevate you higher off the ground compared to other shoes.
